Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture
![]()
Beekeeping is the keeping of honeybees to harvest their honey. This can be done professionally or privately. Honey is considered a lot healthier than sugar so there is a big demand for it. Keeping your own bees also guarantees that you are getting the real product. So much of what you buy has been processed so much that it doesn't have any of the health qualities left. Plus many big store chains buy their honey from China where it isn't honey at all and may be harmful to health.
Beekeeping can also be part of being self-sufficient if things get so bad in the economy that you have to rely on your own resources to obtain food. Honey can be bartered for other goods and be something you can rely on in tough times. One fear is the disease that is killing off the honeybees. Hopefully a cure will be found soon. This is also driving up the cost of real honey.
