The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is an American mid size two-door automobile produced in 1970 through at least 2007. It was made as competition to the Ford Thunderbird and the counterpart to the Pontiac Grand Prix.
Elliot M. Estes the general manager of Chevrolet with the chief designer, Dave Holls invented the Monte Carlo with the intent of competing with other popular automobiles of the time.
The styling was modeled after the Cadillac Eldorado, while the body looked closer to the Chevrolet Chevelle. To make the Chevrolet Monte Carlo look more muscular budges were added to the fenders. The windshield wipers were concealed which was fashionable at that time.
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was a big hit in the racing industry and did really well until 1980 when NASCAR mandated that racecars had to be small with a 110-wheel base. However in 1983 Chevrolet developed the Monte Carlo SS which had a special front end. The SS nose on the new Chevrolet Monte Carlo became the basic design of NASCAR until production ended.
