Wouldn't you love to have a robot do all your chores and possibly go to work for you so you can stay home and relax? Robots are slowly replacing many of our jobs and can even clean our floors and mow the lawn. One of the most famous robots was "KIT" on Nightrider. Kit was an enhanced sports car on a TV show but many wish their cars could drive for them and keep them safe on the road. Even thought "Kit" was fictional character, science is coming closer to making the real thing.
Robots usually come in two categories based on the type of job they do. The first is a robot that can do a job better than a human and the second is based on replacing humans in jobs humans can do better, but the job is dirty, dangerous or really dull.
Robots are mechanical or artificial agents that can do certain programmed tasks. Some don't look like humans at all while others are made to look as life like as possible. The vacuum robot is a round disk that zooms around your floor sweeping and sometimes mopping. You can set it up and let it take care of the floor on its own with a small amount of maintenance.
To quality as a robot the agent or machine needs to be artificially created, have the ability to sense its environment, manipulate its environment, also have some intelligence, be programmable and have the ability to move itself unless its function requires it to stay in one place. Robots don't need to have all these functions to qualify as a robot but should have enough to distinguish it from a typical machine.
