We all know the tragic story of how the Titanic sank so this article won't get into it very much. However this is the place to find Titanic memorabilia and collectibles for those who want a piece of history.

The Titanic tragedy was made so much more distressing from the mistakes that cost so many lives. Everything from the command to try to avoid the iceberg instead of meeting it head on to the near empty lifeboats that refused to pick up the survivors who froze to death in the icy waters.

The Carpathia, a ship that responded to the disaster, brought the 710 survivors from the Titanic to New York City. It took 3 days to get to port and communication wasn't really good. The press reported that the Titanic was being to towed by the Carpathia, which made the later news that most on board had perished more bitter to take.

When the Carpathia docked there was a crowd of 40,000 people waiting in the heavy rain to see the survivors and to help them out. Different committees like the Women's' Relief and the Council of Jewish Women supplied clothes and shelter.

The railroad gave free passage to those who could not afford to travel and the crew of the Carpathia was given a bonus for helping out. Charities were set up to help families who lost everything. Many families lost a father and husband who was the breadwinner of the family.
