1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500 Roadster![]()
The Triumph Motor Company first got its start by selling bicycles in London in 1885. The company was founded by Siegfried Bettmann and Moritz Schulte. It wasn't until 1919 that the company sold its first car. By the 1930's the company changed its name to the now Triumph Motor Company.
The Triumph Motor Company was small and could not compete with the large car companies so they decided to make a special expensive car that would appeal to those with money who wanted something different from the masses. Unfortunately the company had financial problems and had to sell off their bike and motorcycle business and finally the company was sold to T.W. Ward in 1939.
