How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive 19 Ed: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot

The Volkswagen or VW is a German made automobile. In German the name means "peoples car." The Volkswagen came to the United States in 1949. 1955 sold one million of them.

When the car first hit the US market it was briefly named the "Victory Car." The name probably came from the United States and their allies winning the war against Germany.

One of the reasons why the Volkswagen sold so well is from the advertising that was done for the car. The ads were crisp and had such witty slogans that the advertisements became as popular as the VW.

Most people called the cute VW a beetle or the Volkswagen Beetle. The original VW Beetle is a collector's item now and can still be found on this page or on the link below for sale.

The Volkswagen almost died out after the war. The factory was in disrepair from bombing and because the cars were made for the German military (beside civilian use) it probably would have been totally destroyed.
But fortunately one car was painted green and sent to the British Army. The army was desperately in need of smaller transport and ordered 20,000 of them putting the VW factory back in production. Despite the production delays caused by the rain that pouring through the damaged roof the factory produced 1000 cars a month.

Some of the army personal liked these VW Beetles so much that they took them home with them and spread the demand to other places.

Many thought that the Volkswagen was too ugly and not worth very much and would not last but these cars are still being sold today. On this page you will find Volkswagen cars for Sale including the original Beetle type and service manuals, parts and books on beetle restoration. Some of the models sold here are the Corrado, GTI, Jetta, Rabbit, Thing, Van and more.
