The SAAB car Company was started in the country of Sweden and was bought by General Motors in 1989 until 2010, when it was sold to Spyker.
It first got its start in1937 building aircraft for the Swedish Air Force. After the war the need for the aircraft dropped off and the company decided that cars were always essential so got into the auto market.
The first car designed by Saab was a nice streamlined car with a steel body. It was a 2 door with a two cylinder 2-stroke engine. It was called the 92nd SAAB.
The previous 91 SAAB designs had been aircraft and their first car was next in line so got a similar name. The Saab 93 came next in 1955 and so on. As of 1970 Saab had built and sold 500,000 cars so the company was pretty successful.
Saab's best selling model was produced in 1978 called the Saab 900. Close to one million of the Classic Saab 900 was sold and even today these cars are considered hot collector's items.
